Inactive Status
A student who discontinues enrollment for a period of fewer than 12 consecutive months will have their enrollment placed in inactive status. Students in inactive status retain their program standing and catalog year and may return to active enrollment without reapplying, subject to advisor notification and registration procedures.
The time-to-degree clock continues to run during any period of inactive status. Time spent in inactive enrollment is not excluded from the maximum time-to-degree limit. Students who anticipate an interruption in enrollment are strongly encouraged to apply for a formal Leave of Absence, which does pause the time-to-degree clock. See Leave of Absence above.
A student whose enrollment remains inactive for 12 consecutive months or more will be administratively withdrawn from the program. Withdrawal terminates the student's active program standing.
Re-enrollment After Withdrawal
Students who have withdrawn or have been administratively withdrawn due to discontinued enrollment for a period of 12 consecutive months or more may apply for re-enrollment through the Office of Admissions. Re-enrollment is not guaranteed and is subject to admissions review. Students who are re-enrolled:
- Are placed on the current catalog year and curriculum requirements in effect at the time of re-enrollment
- Have prior coursework evaluated for applicability toward the current curriculum requirements
- Must meet all current admissions standards
Recency Evaluation
Upon re-enrollment, the program director or assigned faculty advisor will conduct a recency evaluation of the student's previously completed coursework. Courses completed more than 5 years prior to re-enrollment may be deemed insufficiently current for the discipline and may require repetition before the student may advance. The program director's determination is final.
The recency evaluation exists to ensure that re-enrolling students possess knowledge and skills that reflect current standards in the discipline.
