This course provides an introduction to African drumming and dance traditions, focusing onfoundational techniques, rhythms, and movements from regions such as West Africa (Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeda) and Central Africa, Through hands-on instruction and ensemble performance, studentswill explore the cultural context, histo1y, and significance of these art forms. Emphasis will be placed on developing proficiency in drumming, dancing, and ensemble collaboration, Students are strongly encouraged to bring an audio or video recorder to class to help with practice, and to dress comfortably for dancing.
