Leave of Absence

Reinhardt University recognizes that doctoral students may encounter personal, professional, or medical circumstances that temporarily prevent continuous enrollment. A formal Leave of Absence (LOA) allows a student to interrupt enrollment for an approved period while retaining their program standing and catalog year.

Key Provisions

  • An approved LOA pauses the student's time-to-degree clock for the duration of the leave.
  • Students on an approved LOA retain their current catalog year and curriculum requirements upon return.
  • Students must submit a formal LOA request prior to the start of the term for which leave is requested, except in cases of medical emergency or military deployment.
  • Students returning from an approved LOA re-enroll under their original program requirements and committee assignments.
  • Maximum duration of a single LOA: One Academic Year
  • Maximum total LOA time across a student's enrollment: Two Years
  • Maximum number of LOA requests permitted: 4
  • Approval authority: Program Coordinator

Military & Medical Leave

Students called to active military duty or experiencing a serious medical condition may be eligible for leave provisions beyond the standard LOA policy.
